Welcome Sailing as a corporate entertainment event has a distinct advantage. The whole process involves the crew working together closely from the off. First of all the crew will be briefed to handle the mooring warps correctly and leave the marina berth safely, hopefully without leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Then there will be some essential instructions on which side of the river to navigate and how to recognise the markers indicating the deep water channel (no good following that Topper sailing dinghy in front). Once the sails are raised at the mouth of the river, everyone can be allocated a specific task. These include taking turns on the helm, navigating, keeping watch in the bow on a port tack and learning how to control each of the sheets which are used to trim the sails.

During the day, the team may bring the yacht to anchor in one of the bays or creeks where we pause for breath from time to time for a cup of coffee. Or they may sail on to a mooring buoy which is a little more difficult, always under the close control of the skipper.

Man overboard recovery is another fantastic way to get everyone working together when the pressure is on. Teamwork is now essential. While one crew member sends the alarm on the digital vhf radio and inputs the MOB position to the electronic chart plotter, another keeps pointing in the direction of the casulty as the yacht turns. A third throws over the life bouys and scatters the water with floatable items such as fenders to aid visability. The rest of the crew spring to the sail controls as the yacht manoevres. This will also bring out the natural leaders in the group. But it is the bonds which are formed between the crew which are the most beneficial.

Despite the above, these uk corporate events sailing days are very relaxing and always good fun. If more than a single yacht is required, we organise a race or two which tends to encourage a little competition between the crews. Or perhaps we will propose team building games such as navigation exercises involving finding buoys identified only by their latitude and longitude positions.

It serves as an ice breaker as the crew are constrained by the yacht and need to work together from the off. UK coporate event sailing days are operated from fashionable Lymington in the New Forest National Park down in Hampshire / Dorset. Our location allows us to cruise up the Beaulieu River into the heart of the forest or dart across to Yarmouth or Newtown Creek on the Island. Cowes is less than 2 hours sailing away.

Because we are at the far western end of the Solent, the beautiful blue flag beaches of Studland bay and the Jurassic coast to the west and Poole harbour are in range for a days charter as is Portsmouth to the east. Your day out on the water will not break the bank. In fact we often arrange corporate event sailing for financial organisations. We do not charge inflated prices just because you are a company. We charge you the same as everyone else, just £500* for a modern 40ft wheel steering yacht each capable of taking 8 crew including skipper. We can however turn on the style with the rest and can provide high quality catering, promotional clothing, photography, hull advertising and everything else you require to breathe new life into your corporate events allowing you to strengthen relations with your clients and staff groups thereby bringing that sparkle to their eyes.

JOURNAL Thursday 31st May 2007 brought a late booking half day corporate event sailing experience. The company were down in the New Forest for a few days staying in one of the local hotels, many of which are in outstanding forest settings. The teams objective was to thrash out a new sales strategy and break down any communication barriers. [A sailing trip on the Solent is an ideal way of doing this as each team member has a control to take care of to ensure the overall performance of the yacht. With two yachts or more racing around the cans, there is the opportunity for some fun competition]. In the nearby marina a quick briefing saw the crew cast off and exit the berth without hitting anything even though the wind was up a bit. A beat out to the Needles in a force 6 was interupted by a practice man overboard recovery attempt (with a fender rather than a team member!). Eventually the wind died away as forcast and we shook out the main and head sail reefs for the last leg to Alum Bay. Here we dropped sails and motored in. The team lowered the anchor without damaging the bow and were therefore treated to coffee and cakes. Through a miracle of planning, the tide was now on the rise and carried us back to the Lymington river where one of the now confident helms men/women avoided a fleet of X yachts cutting across our path. Final team exercise was to berth at the refueller in the marina which presented no problems and all were away to the taxis right on schedule.

*The basic price for your corporate event includes team building activities/tuition as you require together with sailing suit hire and beverages thoughout the day. Also use of all the recreational equipment on board while at anchor such as fishing rods, hammock, CD player etc.
